Warnings / Contraindications
Acetazolamide should not be used by people with a known allergy to acetazolamide or other sulfonamides; seek urgent care if you develop rash, swelling, or trouble breathing.
It is generally avoided in pregnancy or breastfeeding unless a doctor in India specifically recommends it; discuss risks with your obstetrician.
People with significant kidney disease or a history of kidney stones should use caution; doctors may monitor kidney function and electrolytes.
It can cause metabolic acidosis and electrolyte disturbances (low potassium or sodium), which can lead to dizziness, confusion, or irregular heartbeat; regular monitoring is often needed.
It may interact with other medicines (certain diuretics, ammonium chloride, salicylates, and other drugs that affect electrolytes); tell your doctor about all medicines you take.
Dehydration or poor fluid intake can worsen side effects; maintain adequate hydration, especially in hot weather or at high altitude common in India.
People with liver disease or a history of severe blood disorders should consult a doctor before use; discuss all health conditions with your physician.
Note: recommendations can vary by country; in India, always follow your doctor or local pharmacist and guidelines from Indian health authorities or your PHC/district hospital.
