Warnings / Contraindications
Abacavir may be unsafe in people with an allergy to abacavir or its components, or in those who test positive for the HLA-B*57:01 allele.
Do not start abacavir if HLA-B*57:01 positive or if you have had a prior abacavir hypersensitivity reaction.
Warning signs of hypersensitivity include fever, rash, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, or fatigue—seek urgent medical care and stop the medicine if these occur.
Use with caution in people with liver disease or active hepatitis, and discuss any liver problems with your doctor.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you take, since interactions with other HIV drugs or liver-affecting medicines can occur.
