Possible Side Effects
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Mucositis or mouth ulcers
Fatigue or weakness
Hair loss (alopecia)
Low blood cell counts (anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia) with higher infection risk
Hand-foot syndrome (reddening, swelling, and pain on palms or soles)

Warnings / Contraindications
5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) may be unsafe in people allergic to it or other fluoropyrimidines.
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding; use effective contraception and consult your obstetrician/oncologist.
Caution in severe bone marrow suppression, active infections, or significant liver or kidney disease; may require avoidance or dose adjustments.
DPD deficiency increases the risk of serious toxicity; discuss family history or prior reactions with your doctor.
Interactions with other chemotherapy, radiation, or medicines that affect blood counts; inform your doctor and pharmacist of all medicines and supplements.
Topical 5-FU can cause severe local skin reactions; avoid broken skin and areas around eyes or mucous membranes; protect from sun.
